When we got together in 2019, we knew we wanted to keep playing and to eventually record an EP or album together. Then “it” happened.. Our best-laid plans for 2020 which included festival performances and other great opportunities to workshop and showcase new music were wiped out within about 4 days worth of emails. During the lockdowns, we were fortunate enough to be invited to record some video performances together which would be streamed online through the grace of great organisations like Kaleidoscope Night and Sugar Club in Dublin. We even put out a single which was a cover of Soundgarden's ‘Black Hole Sun’. Still, it wouldn't be until late 2022 until we could really get the wheels turning again.
We managed to release a 2nd single in November 2022 called ‘Neither Here nor There’ which was definitely an outlet for the uncertain times we were facing with many usual venues closing their doors and the money for touring and recording becoming more scarce by the minute. We debuted that single at the JPN Conference in Belfast which was a nice face-to-face jazz event..finally!
In April, we were very fortunate enough to go into the studio to record our Northern Irish Arts Council funded debut album ‘RBG Trio’, named after us. We all wrote music on this and even wrote a piece together. We're so happy to finally present this new work to you all as a vigorous hello! There are 14 tracks (12, and 2 alternate takes). It was recorded at the Grouse Lodge Studio in their amazing big live room. We were all in a room together and did only a few takes of each and we had only done one short run-through before of the new music. This allowed us to capture the freshness. Alex Borwick did an incredible job recording us and the amazing Dave Darlington fully elevated the sound which his mix and master.
The album is available physically in CD format, and digitally via our website and Bandcamp and can be streamed at the usual outlets.
